Ivane Abashidze, Director of the Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia, said on Tuesday that the construction of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port has entered a new phase with the commencement of dredging works on the entrance channel and turning basin.
Speaking about the project, Abashidze noted that the works are being carried out by two vessels from the fleet of the Belgian company Jan De Nul Group - Al-Idrisi and Tristao da Cunha.
“The construction of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port has entered another important stage, as dredging of the entrance channel and turning basin has now begun”, he said.
Abashidze also emphasised that the project’s progress is expected to further strengthen the confidence of international partners in Georgia’s transport and logistics sector, as well as in the country’s strategic role within the regional transit corridor.
“This creates greater confidence among our partners in the Georgian corridor and Georgia’s transport and logistics sector. It also provides strong assurances that the cargo flows attracted to Georgia - which have grown significantly in recent years, particularly over the past two years - will continue to move through Georgia’s transit corridor. The Anaklia Port will serve these increasing cargo volumes passing through the country’s transit routes”, Abashidze concluded.
